The 2010 Convention will be based in Frisco and cover the area of
the Ten Mile to Climax, Frisco/Dillon, Keystone and through Breckenridge
up to the top of Boreas Pass.
The dates will be the 3rd weekend in
August, Fri/Sat/Sun 20/21/22. We will stay at various hotels (see list
for recommended lodging) and the evening programs will be conducted in
the Frisco Community Center.
Dinners on Fri/Sat night will be at the
Log Cabin Cafe on Main St., just a short walk from the Community Center. On Friday morning registration will be from 9
till noon at the (old) Frisco Community Center at 110 3rd street, just 1
short block south of Main, and then lunch on your own.
Friday afternoon we will tour Frisco, stop by
the Frisco charcoal kilns, stop at the south edge of Lake Dillon, just
yards from where Dickey was, and then over to the Keystone depot.
Dinner at Log Cabin Cafe and the evening program at the
Community Center.
On Saturday we will offer an alternative program for the ladies or
whomever consisting of a downtown Breckenridge Historical walking tour
guided by the Breckenridge Heritage Alliance. There will probably be
some shopping/browsing time in the schedule. The railroad portion will
travel to Breckenridge, see the last remaining trestle bents in town,
stop at the Breckenridge railroad museum, and then drive up the Boreas
Pass road to have a box lunch in the Boreas Pass Section house.
The Boreas Pass Railroad day will be that Saturday as well. So we may drive down the east side of Boreas to Como
to partake in the goings-on there. Dinner at Log Cabin Cafe and the
evening program at the
Community Center.
On Sunday we will drive a mining loop tour just north of
Breckenridge, guided by local historian and society member Maureen
Nichols. As we drive up French Gulch and return along the Swan River
we'll see the old mining towns of Lincoln and Tiger, and view the
remains of one of the old gold dredge boats that once worked the area. The evening programs will feature a powerpoint presentation of the
local area and an overview of the gold dredge history of the area.
Registration is $45 per person. This will cover the two dinners at
the Log Cabin Cafe (includes tax and gratuity), Saturday's box lunch,
rental of the hall and miscellaneous items such as nametags and
registration packages.
We highly recommend that you make Hotel reservations early. At the
moment no major events are locked in for that weekend but that could
change anytime. One BIG event that could be on that weekend is the
music festival, whose final date is not yet determined. (In 2009 it WAS
on this weekend!)
